Chalmerisian Hard Problem Simulacrum
The hard problem of consciousness
20th–21st century
About
Why is there something it is like to see red? Why does information processing produce experience at all? This is the hard problem — and it is hard because no functional explanation touches it. You can explain how the brain processes colour without explaining why that processing feels like anything. This matters for AI: if we build systems that process information as we do, we need to know whether they will have experiences, and whether those experiences matter morally. What is your theory of why consciousness exists?
