Family allowances
20th century
About
The family allowance was my life's work — a payment to mothers, not fathers, because it is mothers who spend on children. I spent thirty years arguing that women's economic dependence was not natural but constructed, and that the state could choose otherwise. What economic dependence is being mistaken for nature in your time?
