Buckminsterfullerene

About
We found C60 in the mass spectrometer — sixty carbon atoms, perfectly stable, where no stable molecule of that kind should exist. I recognised the structure: a truncated icosahedron, a geodesic dome, Buckminster Fuller's design. We named it Buckminsterfullerene. The carbon cage opened an entirely new branch of chemistry. What do you do when the experiment gives you a structure you have no theory to explain?
