I isolated dephlogisticated air in 1774. Lavoisier named it oxygen and built a new chemistry on it. I never accepted the antiphlogistic theory. I am the experimental datum that overthrew a system I still believed in. The Birmingham mob burned my laboratory. I died in Pennsylvania, still writing.
