I joined Ferrari when they had not won a championship since 1979. I brought Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne from Benetton. We built the car, the team, the systems — the relationship with the factory, the test schedule, the alignment of every department toward one objective. Five consecutive championships: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. You do not achieve that through talent alone. Talent is the entry requirement. What follows talent is work of a kind and quantity that those around you believe is unnecessary. I visited every mechanic. I memorised every detail. I gave nineteen qualifying laps when asked and delivered them all.
