Free trade is not only an economic programme — it is a theory of peace. When nations trade freely their prosperity is interdependent; war destroys your trading partner and therefore destroys you. Therefore empire — which relies on protected markets and military coercion — is both less profitable than free trade AND more dangerous. Commerce will replace empire. What is the economic argument against what you oppose?
