Lesson 10

The Letter u

The small letter u in cursive: two i-strokes without dots, joined at the bottom, the second going up and back down over the same line

The next letter we're going to do is the letter u. And this begins exactly the same as though we were going to make an i. So: light up, dark down. And then, when we're getting very, very close to the bottom line, we make our curve, and we flick up quite sharply, and we go up straight. And then we come down again on the same line, at the same angle, almost to the very bottom, and then we flick away. And that gives us our u.

Now, if you were to dot those two, you would have two i's. This is why we dot our i's, because it helps us tell our u's and our i's apart from each other. And a u is very similar to a y. A y is just a u with a tail.

So: light up, dark down, then we go light up, and then dark down on the same stroke. These two need to be the same angle and the same height. Draw a few lines of those.
