Lesson 36
Igbo has four letters that are printed with a dot: ị, ụ, ṅ and ọ. You have met them already, beside the i, the u, the n and the o. By hand we do not make a dot: we make a tiny dash, under the ị, the ụ and the ọ, and over the ṅ.
Write the whole word first, without lifting your pen. Then go back and put in the dashes, just as you go back to dot your i's and cross your t's.
Igbo also writes some of its sounds with two letters together: gb, gh, ny, gw, kw, kp, nw, sh and ch. In print these are two ordinary letters side by side, with nothing joining them. In cursive you need nothing new: every letter is already joined to the next one, so each pair is written in one movement, with the same ligatures you have been practising all through this book.
Write each pair on the first line, and fill the line below with it. Light up, dark down.
