  1. Module 4

Crop Production: Land Preparation and Cash Crop Cultivation

    Led by Norman Borlaug Simulacrum

    The question

What does it take to grow a crop from cleared land to stored produce? Norman Borlaug Simulacrum covers land preparation (stumping, primary and secondary cultivation), the four main crop types (legumes, roots and tubers, edible fruits, cereals) and their products, and then works through the complete cultivation sequence for one locally important crop — soil and climatic requirements, soil preparation, sowing time and method, cultivar choice, seed rate and spacing, fertiliser and manure application, pest and disease management, maturity recognition, harvesting, yield, storage, and record keeping.

    Outcome

The student can describe land preparation by primary and secondary cultivations; name the four crop types; and describe the cultivation of one cash crop through all stages from soil preparation to storage. (Module 4 — Crop Production)
