สำหรับผู้พูดภาษาไทย การใช้ "the" มีความสำคัญมาก เพราะในภาษาไทยไม่มีคำนำหน้านามแบบนี้: -

การใช้ "the" ในภาษาอังกฤษ: -

ใช้เมื่อพูดถึงสิ่งเฉพาะเจาะจง -

ใช้กับสิ่งที่มีเพียงหนึ่งเดียวในโลก (พระอาทิตย์ พระจันทร์) -

ใช้กับสิ่งที่เคยกล่าวถึงมาก่อน -

การออกเสียง "the": -

หน้าคำที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยพยัญชนะ: อ่านว่า /เดอะ/ -

หน้าคำที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยสระ: อ่านว่า /ดิ/ -

ข้อแตกต่างจากภาษาไทย: -

ภาษาไทยไม่มีคำนำหน้านามแบบ "the" -

ในภาษาไทยเราใช้การบ่งชี้ด้วยคำว่า "นั่น" "นี่" "โน้น" แทน

ความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรมในการใช้ "the": -

ในภาษาไทย เรามักไม่ต้องระบุความเฉพาะเจาะจง เช่น: -

ภาษาไทย: "ผมไปโรงเรียน" -

ภาษาอังกฤษ: "I go to the school" -

ธรรมชาติและจักรวาล: -

ในวัฒนธรรมไทย เรามีคำนำหน้าพิเศษสำหรับสิ่งที่เคารพ เช่น "พระ" (พระอาทิตย์) -

ในภาษาอังกฤษใช้ "the" กับทุกสิ่ง: the sun, the moon, the stars

การใช้ "the" ในเทพนิยายมีความพิเศษดังนี้: -

ในภาษาอังกฤษ: "The magical mirror" (the + คำคุณศัพท์ + คำนาม) -

ในภาษาไทย: "กระจกวิเศษ" (คำนาม + คำคุณศัพท์) -

ข้อสังเกต: ภาษาอังกฤษและภาษาไทยมีการเรียงคำต่างกัน -

การใช้ "the" กับตัวละครเทพนิยาย: -

เมื่อแนะนำตัวละครครั้งแรก: "a princess" (เจ้าหญิงองค์หนึ่ง) -

เมื่อกล่าวถึงอีกครั้ง: "the princess" (เจ้าหญิงองค์นั้น) -

ในภาษาไทยไม่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงแบบนี้ -

สถานที่และสิ่งของวิเศษในเทพนิยาย: -

"The enchanted forest" (ป่าอาถรรพ์แห่งนั้น) -

"The magical ring" (แหวนวิเศษวงนั้น) -

ภาษาไทยมักใช้การบ่งชี้ด้วย "นั้น" "นี้" แทน -

การสร้างบรรยากาศเทพนิยาย: -

การใช้ "the" ช่วยสร้างความรู้สึกว่าสิ่งนั้นพิเศษและเป็นหนึ่งเดียว -

ในภาษาไทย เราใช้คำว่า "วิเศษ" "อาถรรพ์" "มหัศจรรย์" เพื่อสร้างบรรยากาศแทน
