I. EXCAVATION CONTEXT

Significance

This is one of only THREE surviving Chrysippus texts from antiquity. Chrysippus wrote 705 books - we have fragments of 3. This papyrus contains his crucial argument linking logic to physics to ethics through providence.

English Translation: "Since fate is what holds together the cosmos's reason containing all things, everything happens according to nature necessarily, according to the sequence of causes, and nothing happens contrary to fate or providence in the cosmos. But if everything happens by necessity, there is no randomness nor chance."
