Testāmentum Molitōris

Erasmus of Rotterdam Simulacrum

A construed Latin story told by Erasmus: in 1521, stranded by a lame horse in a Rhine village, he finds the villagers divided over a dead miller's will whose two copies differ by four words. He refuses to give a verdict, sets the copies in two columns, and sends for an older witness.
