This is the way to the station This is a better way to learn English Which way is the station? ، وThe shop is a long way from here
أما way فهي المسار الذي تسلكه للوصول إلى مكان (the way to the station) أو الأسلوب الذي تفعل به شيئاً (a way to learn). فلا نسأل ✗ Where is the road of the station؟ بل Where is the way to the station؟ How do I get to the station؟
فنقول the way to + مكان: the way to the market (62.6)، وليس ✗ the way for the market ولا ✗ the way of the market. لكن بعد home وback وout وin لا نضع حرف جر: the way home (62.8)، وليس ✗ the way to home. ونقول on my way to work (62.9) لكن on my way home (✗ on my way to home). ونقول on the way (✗ in the way to work).
I do not like the way he talks to children (62.13)، بلا how: ✗ the way how he talks. I do not like how he talks، لكن لا نجمع الكلمتين.
It is a long way، There is a better way. ✗ I know way ← ✓ I know the way. ✗ It is long way ← ✓ It is a long way.
It is a long way from here (62.12)، وهي تقابل «بعيد»، وفي الأسئلة والنفي نقول far: Is it far؟ It isn't far. ✗ It is a far way.
This is the way. We know the way. He lost his way. ✗ I know way - اتجاه: Which way is the station؟ Come this way - طريقة وأسلوب: a better way to learn English، There is no other way، many ways to cook rice - the way to + مكان: the way to the market. وبلا حرف جر: the way home، the way back، the way out، the way in. ✗ the way to home - on my way to work، on my way home، on the way. ✗ in my way to work - the way + جملة بلا how: I do not like the way he talks. ✗ the way how he talks - a long way from = بعيد من: The shop is a long way from our house. ✗ a far way - عبارات: by the way (بالمناسبة)، in the way (يعيق الطريق)، give way (يفسح الطريق)، go out of one's way (يبذل جهداً إضافياً) - المصدر بعد way: a way to learn أو a way of learning. ✗ a way for learn - النطق: way [weɪ] لا [waɪ] (why) ولا [wiː] (we)
The word way is a countable noun with several meanings: a road or route (This is the way to the station), a direction (Which way is the station?), a method (a better way to learn English), and a distance (a long way from here). It needs an article before it (I know the way), takes to before a place (the way to the market) but no preposition before home, back, out and in (the way home), and is followed directly by a clause when it means manner (the way he talks, not the way how he talks). Its fixed phrases include on my way, by the way, in the way, give way and go out of your way. This lesson trains the reader to say on my way home and not in the way to home, a long way and not a far way, and to say the word as [weɪ] and not as why or we.

- طريق أو مسار: This is the way (62.1)، We know the way (62.3)، He lost his way in the dark (62.7) - اتجاه: Which way is the station؟ (62.4)، Please come this way (62.11)، Which way did he go؟ - طريقة أو أسلوب: a better way to learn English (62.10)، There is no other way (62.5)، many ways to cook rice (62.15) - مسافة: a long way from our house (62.12) - way اسم معدود، وجمعه ways (بإضافة -s): one way، two ways، many ways (62.15). I know the way (✗ I know way)، He lost his way (62.7)، It is a long way (62.12) - way وroad وstreet وpath: road طريق معبّد للسيارات، وstreet شارع في المدينة، وpath ممر ضيق للمشاة، وway المسار أو الأسلوب بوجه عام. ولا نقول ✗ the way of the hospital، بل the way to the hospital
- the way to + مكان: Is this the way to the market؟ (62.6)، the way to the station، the way to school. ✗ the way for the market. ✗ the way of the station - the way + home / back / out / in / here / there بلا حرف جر: A kind man showed us the way home (62.8)، the way back، the way out، the way in (62.27). ✗ the way to home - on my way (to): I buy bread on my way to work (62.9)، On his way he passes a bakery (62.18)، On the way they talk about the town (62.24). وبعد home بلا to: on my way home. ✗ in my way to work. ✗ on my way to home - know / show / ask / lose / find the way: We know the way (62.3)، Show me the way (62.2)، a tourist asks the way (62.22)، He lost his way (62.7)، She found her way. والعبارة الثابتة مع lose وfind تأخذ ضمير الملكية الذي يعود على الفاعل: He lost his way، We lost our way، She found her way.
٣. the way + جملة (الكيفية)
- the way + فاعل + فعل: I do not like the way he talks to children (62.13)، I like the way you smile، Show me the way she does it. ويجوز حذف that أو إثباتها: the way (that) he talks - لا نضع how بعد way: ✗ the way how he talks. ✓ the way he talks. ✓ how he talks. ✓ the way in which he talks (أسلوب رسمي) - the same way بلا حرف جر: He walks the same way every morning (62.17)، بمعنى «في الطريق نفسه» أو «بالطريقة نفسها». وكذلك every way وthis way وthat way وthe other way
٤. a way to / a way of
- a way to + مصدر: a better way to learn English (62.10)، the best way to start the day (62.30)، There is no other way to do it - a way of + -ing: a way of learning، the best way of starting the day. ✗ a way for learn. ✗ a way to learning - in this way / in that way = بهذه الطريقة: In this way you can save money. ✗ by this way. ويقال أيضاً this way بلا حرف جر: Do it this way. وin a way = إلى حد ما
٥. المسافة: a long way
- a long way (from) = بعيد من: The shop is a long way from our house (62.12). وa short way = قريب. ✗ It is a far way. ✗ a long way to here - في السؤال والنفي نقول عادةً far: Is it far؟ It is not far. وفي الإثبات نقول a long way أو very far - all the way = طوال الطريق أو حتى النهاية: She walked all the way home. وthe rest of the way = بقية الطريق (62.28)، وpart of the way = جزء من الطريق (62.19)، وhalfway = في منتصف الطريق
٦. this way وwhich way واتجاه الحركة
- بلا حرف جر: Please come this way (62.11)، Which way is the station؟ (62.4)، Go the other way. ✗ Please come from this way - one-way street = شارع باتجاه واحد، وone-way ticket = تذكرة ذهاب فقط، وtwo-way = باتجاهين - the right way / the wrong way: Are we going the right way؟
- by the way = بالمناسبة، وتُقال لإضافة نقطة جانبية: By the way, my name is Peter (62.24). وتُكتب اختصاراً BTW في الرسائل - in the way = يعيق الطريق أو يقف حائلاً: some children are standing in the way (62.25). وout of the way = بعيداً عن الطريق. ✗ in the way to work - give way (to) = يفسح الطريق أو يتنازل عن أسبقية المرور: you must give way to the cars on your right (62.14). وmake way (for) = يفسح المجال لـ - go out of one's way (to) = يبذل جهداً إضافياً: You have gone out of your way to help me (62.26) - way in / way out = المدخل / المخرج: shows him the way in (62.27) - no way = مستحيل (عامية): «Can you lend me your car؟» ← No way! وway of life = أسلوب حياة - on my way وحدها = «أنا في الطريق إليك»: I'm on my way! It is on my way (62.23)
The coat is way too expensive (غالٍ جداً جداً)، This is way better.
- طريق معبّد للسيارات = road: the road to Cairo. وشارع = street. ومسار ضيق = path. وطريق سريع = motorway (بريطانية) أو highway (أمريكية) - يقابل «طريقة الطبخ» = way of cooking أو method.
- ✗ I know way ← ✓ I know the way - ✗ It is long way from here ← ✓ It is a long way from here - ✗ It is a far way from here ← ✓ It is a long way from here - ✗ Where is the way of the hospital؟ ← ✓ Where is the way to the hospital؟ - ✗ the way to home ← ✓ the way home - ✗ I am on my way to home ← ✓ I am on my way home - ✗ I am in the way to work ← ✓ I am on the way to work - ✗ He lost the road of his house ← ✓ He lost his way home - ✗ I do not like the way how he talks ← ✓ I do not like the way he talks - ✗ a way for learn English ← ✓ a way to learn English - ✗ by this way ← ✓ in this way / this way - ✗ [waɪ] أو [wiː] ← ✓ [weɪ]

Excuse me, could you tell me the way to the station, please؟ أو Excuse me, how do I get to the station؟ والجواب المعتاد: Go straight on، Turn left at the lights، Take the second turning on the right، ثم You can't miss it (لن تخطئه). Sorry, I'm not from around here. وتُختم المحادثة بـ Thank you very much أو Thanks for your help. وWay in للمدخل. - On my way عبارة يومية جداً في الرسائل والمكالمات: I'm on my way! وتقول On my way home (في طريقي إلى البيت)، وهي أفضل من إطالة الجملة. وBTW اختصار by the way في الرسائل الإلكترونية. - Where there's a will, there's a way There's more than one way to do it، أي «ليست هناك طريقة واحدة فقط». - No way! - Way of life عبارة تصف عادات مجتمع ما أو فرد: the British way of life، a healthy way of life. In many ways, the city has changed. Excuse me: Which way is the station, please؟ أو Excuse me, is this the right way to the castle؟

Yet ومع - ذلك knowing عارفاً how كيف way طريق leads يفضي on - to إلى way, طريق
I أنا doubted شككت if ما - إذا I أنا should سوف ever يوماً come أعود back.
— Robert Frost, "The Road Not Taken", Mountain Interval (1916)
"Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back."
The Poetry of Robert Frost
- knowing how way leads on to way: knowing جزء من جملة حال (participle clause) فاعلها المتكلم نفسه (I): «وأنا أعرف». - way leads on to way: way وlead on to = يقود إلى أو يفضي إلى. وفي الكلام العادي: one path leads to another. - I doubted if I should ever come back: doubted ماضٍ، وif هنا بمعنى whether (ما إذا) بعد doubt. I doubted whether I would ever come back. وcome back فعل مركب = يعود. - ملاحظة للنطق: way [weɪ]، knowing [ˈnəʊɪŋ]، leads [liːdz]، doubted [ˈdaʊtɪd] (b صامتة)، should [ʃʊd]، ever [ˈevə]، back [bæk].
