Lesson 11 English for Japanese Speakers: A Latinum Institute Language Course

have - 持つ

Introduction

I have a car. I have a brother. I have a car. / I have a sister.

助動詞として、完了形(have + 過去分詞)を作ります:I have finished.

(Key Takeaways):

- have = 持つ/ある/いる:物にも人にも動物にも "have" を使う - 「私には〜がある」→ I have 〜(持ち主が主語になる) - 三人称単数(he, she, it)では has:She has a brother. I have finished. - have to = 〜しなければならない;don't have to = 〜しなくてもよい - have lunch, have coffee, have a good time:食事や経験にも "have" を使う

Section D (文法説明 / Grammatical Explanation)

- I have (アイ・ハヴ) — 私は持っている - you have — あなた(たち)は持っている - he / she / it has (ハズ) — 彼/彼女/それは持っている (11.2, 11.7) - we have / they have — 私たち/彼らは持っている (11.4) - 過去形:had (ハッド) — すべての人称で同じ (11.12, 11.13) - 過去分詞:had — I have had…(完了形)(11.29 参照) - -ing 形:having

He have" や "She have" は誤りです。

- 私は車を持っています/私には車があります → I have a car. (11.1) - 彼女には兄弟が二人います → She has two brothers. (11.2) - 時間がありますか → Do you have time? (11.3) - このホテルには大きな庭があります → This hotel has a large garden. (11.7)

There is a garden behind the hotel.

- I have a headache. (11.5) - I have a cold. - I have a fever.

- have lunch / breakfast / dinner — 昼食/朝食/夕食を食べる (11.6, 11.19) - have coffee / tea — コーヒー/お茶を飲む (11.26) - have a picnic / a party — ピクニック/パーティーをする (11.28) - have a good time — 楽しい時間を過ごす (11.29)

→ ○ I have a car.

I have finished my homework. Have you ever been to London? My grandmother has lived in Kyoto for fifty years.

完了形の疑問文では have が主語の前に出ます(do は使いません):Have you ever been…? (11.9) ×Do you have been…?

6. 義務の "have to"

- I have to go. / She has to go. / We had to walk.(過去)(11.24) - 否定:I don't have to go. Do you have to go?

You must not smoke here.

7. 使役の "have"

- I had my hair cut. - I will have my car repaired.

I don't have a car. / She doesn't have time. / We didn't have enough money. Do you have time? (11.3) / Does she have a car? / Did you have a problem? I have got a car. = I've got a car. / Have you got time?

- I have → I've / you have → you've / we have → we've - he has → he's("he is" と同じ形なので文脈で判断) - I had → I'd("I would" と同じ形) - have not → haven't / has not → hasn't - 所有の "have" は、アメリカ英語では "I've a car" のように短縮しないのが普通です。I have a car. または I've got a car.

(Common Mistakes):

- She have two brothers. → She has two brothers. - I am having a car. → I have a car. - To me there are two sisters. → I have two sisters. - I have car. → I have a car.(冠詞を忘れない) - My head is painful. → I have a headache. - Do you have been to London? → Have you ever been to London? - I have gone to London.(「行ったことがある」の意味で) → I have been to London.("have gone" は「行ってしまって今ここにいない」) - You don't have to smoke here.(「吸ってはいけない」の意味で) → You must not smoke here. - I cut my hair at the barber's. → I had my hair cut at the barber's.

✾ ❦ ✾ ❦ ✾ ✾ ❦ ✾ ❦ ✾ ✾ ❦ ✾ ❦ ✾

Section E (文化的な注釈 / Cultural Note)

I have two sisters. / I have a son. - 英語圏の店やレストランでは、"Do you have…?" Do you have this in a larger size? / Do you have a table for two? 注文するときは "Can I have…?" "I'll have…" Can I have a coffee, please? I'll have the fish. Have a nice day! / Have a good weekend! / Have a safe trip! 返事は "Thanks, you too!" - "You have to…" (You have to try this cake!) や "Would you mind…?" 会議で「質問があります」は "I have a question."

Section F (文学的引用 / Literary Quote)

Part F-A (対照テキスト / Interlinear Text)

I 私は am である a (—) Jew ユダヤ人.

Hath (= has) あるのか not ない a (—) Jew ユダヤ人には eyes 目が?

Hath (= has) あるのか not ない a (—) Jew ユダヤ人には hands 手も, organs 内臓も, dimensions 五体も, senses 感覚も, affections 情愛も, passions 激情も?

Part F-B (完全な訳 / Complete Translation)

I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions?

Part F-C (文学的分析 / Literary Analysis)

Hath not a Jew…?"

Part F-D (文法的注釈 / Grammatical Notes)

同じように doth = does。 - Hath not a Jew eyes? = Doesn't a Jew have eyes? ただし完了形の "have" は今でも主語の前に出ます:Have you ever been…? (11.9) - 目や手のような体の部分も "have" で表します:A Jew has eyes.

Section D (物語の文法説明 / Grammar Notes for the Narrative)

- 所有(ある・いる):The family has two children and a cat. - 所有(持っている):He didn't have a bus card (11.21), Now he has a card (11.25)。否定は didn't have、"had not a card" とは言いません。 He has a small room (11.17)。 - no + 名詞:he had no cash (11.21) = he didn't have any cash。" Do you have any change? You have to buy a card (11.23)、he had to walk (11.24)。過去の義務は "had to"、"must" には過去形がないので "had to" を使います。 - 食事と経験:have breakfast (11.19), has coffee (11.26), had a picnic (11.28), have dinner (11.30)。 - 授業:have English class (11.27) — 「授業がある」も "have"。 - 完了形:has lived … for three weeks (11.16, 継続), has made some friends (11.25, 完了), has never had (11.29, 経験)。 - has had / has never had (11.29):最初の "has" は助動詞(完了)、次の "had" は本動詞 "have"(過ごす)の過去分詞です。

Pronunciation Guide

- has /hæz/ — 「ハズ」。 - had /hæd/ — 「ハッド」。 - having /ˈhævɪŋ/ — 「ハヴィング」。

I have finished → /aɪ əv ˈfɪnɪʃt/ または /aɪv ˈfɪnɪʃt/(I've)。 - has → /həz/ または /əz/、had → /həd/ または /əd/。 I have a car /aɪ ˈhæv ə ˈkɑːr/。

"have to" の発音:

- have to → /ˈhæftə/ 「ハフタ」。" - has to → /ˈhæstə/ 「ハスタ」、had to → /ˈhætə/ 「ハッタ」に近い音。

I have to have lunch. /aɪ ˈhæftə hæv ˈlʌntʃ/ — 最初の "have" は /hæf/、二つ目は /hæv/ です。
