1. 主語の he:He is tall. / He lives here. 2. 目的語の him:I know him. / Tell him. / for him。 3. 所有の his:his book(彼の本)、The book is his.(その本は彼のものです)。 4. 再帰の himself:He cut himself.(彼は自分を切ってしまった)、He did it by himself.(彼は自分ひとりでやった)。
この課では、ほかに、短縮形の he's / he'll / he'd、間接話法の He said he would call.(電話すると言った)、疑問文の Is he ...? / Does he ...?、付加疑問の He is tall, isn't he?
He is my brother. I know him. his book / The book is his. He did it himself. - he's /hiːz/:he is または he has の短縮形。He's tall. / He's gone home. - he'll /hiːl/:he will。he'd /hiːd/:he would または he had。
× Came yesterday. He is tall. / He came yesterday.
Mr. Tanaka is a student. He lives in Tokyo.
日本語の「兄は、彼は、背が高い」の感覚で、× My brother he is tall. 正しくは、My brother is tall. か、He is tall.
He lives here. / He plays the guitar. Does he live here? / He doesn't play the guitar.(× He doesn't plays.)
(Key Takeaways):
He is tall. / Who is he? → He is tall. - he の形は四つ:he(〜は)、him(〜を・〜に)、his(〜の・〜のもの)、himself(〜自身) - he は三人称単数:be は is、have は has、一般動詞は -s:He is / He has / He lives - 疑問文と否定文は does + 原形:Does he live here? Is he a teacher? — Yes, he is. / Does he work here? — No, he doesn't. - 名前と he を重ねない:× My brother he is tall. → My brother is tall. - 前置詞のあとは him:for him、with him、to him。× for he(Lesson 14 の for) - his は he's と別の語で、アポストロフィがない:his book(彼の本)、he's tired(彼は疲れている) - 物や動物は普通 it で受ける。he は人に使う:× The book, he is old. → The book is old. / It is old.

1. he の形
- 主格 he:He is tall. (16.1)、Who is he? (16.2)。 「〜は」「〜が」に当たります - 目的格 him:I like him. (16.8)、I cook fish for him. (16.9)、she thanked him (16.12)。 「〜を」「〜に」「〜のために」に当たります - 所有格 his:his book (16.12)、his sister (16.12)。名詞の前に置いて、「彼の〜」の意味を表します - 再帰代名詞 himself:He did it himself. 主語と同じ人が目的語になるとき、または「自分で」と強めるときに使います - 短縮形:he's = he is または he has、he'll = he will、he'd = he would または he had。 He's very kind.
- × Is tall. → He is tall. (16.1) - × Works in a café. → He works in a café. Lucas is my friend. He plays the guitar.
- × My brother he is tall. → My brother is tall. / He is tall. Mr. Brown is our teacher. He speaks slowly. Tom told Ben that he was tired.(he は Tom か Ben か、わかりません)→ Tom told Ben, "I'm tired."
4. be と have と一般動詞
- be:He is tall. (16.1)、He is my brother. (16.3)。× He am、× He are。 He was tired. (16.10) - have:He has a blue bike. (16.6)。× He have。完了形は He hasn't called yet. He eats、He lives、He works。 × He eat meat. He can swim. (16.13)、he will take you (Genre)。× He can swims. × He will takes. He gave (16.12)、He told (16.10)、He said (16.15)
Is he a teacher? (16.4)、Who is he? (16.2)。 Where does he work? (16.7)。× Where he works?、× Does he works?(Lesson 15 の規則2) - 短い答えは、聞かれた動詞で答えます:Is he a teacher? — Yes, he is. (16.5) / No, he isn't. Does he work here? — Yes, he does. / No, he doesn't. - × Does he work here? — Yes, he is.。 英語は、Yes, he is. Yes, he is a teacher.
6. 否定文
- 一般動詞:He doesn't eat meat. (16.9)。doesn't + 原形。× He doesn't eats meat. - be:He isn't tired.(He is not tired.) He hasn't called yet. (16.15) - can:He can't swim.(cannot の短縮形です)
I like him. (16.8)、she thanked him (16.12)、I asked him (Genre) - 前置詞のあと:for him (16.9)、to him、with him、about him。Lesson 14 の for のあとも、him です。× for he、× with he - 二つの目的語:tell him the story(彼にその話をする)、give him a book。 → I like him.
his book、his sister (16.12)。 a や the は重ねません:× the his book - 所有代名詞:The book is his.(その本は彼のものです)。his のあとに名詞はありません - his は、he's と違う語です。his にはアポストロフィがありません:His name is Lucas.(彼の名前はルーカスです)と、He's from Canada.(彼はカナダ出身です)。 He gave his book to his sister. (16.12)。
9. himself
× He cut him.(この him は別の人になります) - 「ひとりで」「自分で」:He is learning by himself.(彼は独学で学んでいる)、He did it himself.(彼は自分でやった) - by himself は「ひとりで・独力で」の意味です。He is learning a little by himself. (Genre)
He is tall, isn't he? / He doesn't eat meat, does he? He said he would call me. (16.15)、He told me that he was tired. (16.10)。 He said he wanted to visit Japan. (16.20)。 He said Tom wanted to visit Japan. He told me he was tired.
11. he と it と they
物、考え、天気は it:The book is old. It is interesting.(× He is interesting.) Someone called. They left a message. A doctor should listen to patients.
12. he and I
He and I are friends.(× I and he) - 主語の位置では、him ではなく he を使います:× Him and me are friends. → He and I are friends. また、× Me and him went. → He and I went. Come with him and me.(× with he and I)
(Common Mistakes):
- Is tall. → He is tall. - My brother he is tall. → My brother is tall. - He am tall. / He are tall. → He is tall. - He have a bike. → He has a bike. - He eat meat. → He eats meat. - He doesn't eats meat. → He doesn't eat meat. - Where he works? → Where does he work? - Does he works here? → Does he work here? - Does he work here? — Yes, he is. → Yes, he does. - I like he. → I like him. - This is for he. → This is for him. - Hi's name is Lucas. / He's name is Lucas. → His name is Lucas. - The book is he's. → The book is his. - He cut him. (自分を切った) → He cut himself. - Him and me are friends. → He and I are friends. - The book is old. He is interesting. → The book is old. It is interesting. - He said me that he was tired. → He told me that he was tired. / He said that he was tired.

My brother ... He ... My host father や Mr. Brown と最初に紹介したら、あとは He で続けます。

Alfred, Lord Tennyson アルフレッド・テニスン, "The Eagle" 『鷲』(1851)、副題 "A Fragment"(断片)。
He 彼は clasps しっかりつかむ the (—) crag 岩を with で crooked 曲がった hands 手; Close 近くに to (—) the (—) sun 太陽 in (の) lonely さびしい lands 土地, Ring'd 取り巻かれて with (に) the (—) azure 青い world 世界, he 彼は stands 立つ.
The (—) wrinkled しわの寄った sea 海は beneath 〜の下で him 彼 crawls 這う; He 彼は watches 見ている from から his 彼の mountain 山の walls 壁, And そして like 〜のように a (—) thunderbolt 雷 he 彼は falls 落ちる.
He clasps the crag with crooked hands; Close to the sun in lonely lands, Ring'd with the azure world, he stands.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls; He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls.
Ring'd with the azure world, he stands.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls。
- He clasps the crag:clasp = しっかりつかむ。 he は主語で、clasps は三人称単数の -s - with crooked hands:with = 〜で(道具・手段)。 ここでは、鷲の足の爪を「手」と呼んでいると読めます - Close to the sun:close to = 〜のすぐ近くに。the sun は、世界に一つなので the がつきます - in lonely lands:lands は複数形で、「土地」。lonely = さびしい、人のいない - Ring'd with the azure world:Ring'd = ringed の古い綴り。 azure = 空の青 - he stands:stand = 立つ。 He stands, ringed with the azure world です - The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls:普通の語順は、The wrinkled sea crawls beneath him です。 crawl = 這うように動く - He watches from his mountain walls:watch = 見張る、見守る。from = 〜から。 切り立った崖のことと読めます - And like a thunderbolt:like = 〜のように(前置詞)。

16.16 Today I met Maria's brother, and he is twenty-five years old.
16.17 His name is Lucas, and he studies music at a university in Vancouver.
16.18 He plays the guitar very well, and he works at a small café on Fridays.
16.19 He asked me where I was from, so I told him about Osaka.
16.20 He said he wanted to visit Japan someday.
16.21 He doesn't know Japanese, but he is learning a little by himself.
16.22 Mr. Brown is our teacher, and he speaks slowly so that we can understand.
16.23 Maria says he is the best teacher in the school, and I agree with her.
16.24 Last week he gave us a story to read, and he asked us questions about it.
16.25 My host father is very kind, and he drives me to school when it rains.
16.26 He doesn't drink coffee, but he makes very good tea for me.
16.27 He cooks dinner every Sunday, so please tell Mom that she doesn't need to worry.
16.28 I asked him if you could visit us next summer, and he said yes!
16.29 If you come, he will take you to the sea.
16.30 I think he will like you, and I hope you will like him too.

he が主語なので、一般動詞に -s がつきます - 否定の doesn't:He doesn't know Japanese (16.21)、He doesn't drink coffee (16.26)。 know、drink は原形で、-s はつきません - 所有格 his:His name is Lucas. (16.17)。 × He name is ... - 目的格 him:I told him about Osaka (16.19)、I asked him (16.28)、I hope you will like him too (16.30)。動詞のあとの him です - tell と ask の形:tell + 人 + about ...(人に〜について話す)、ask + 人 + if ...(人に〜かどうか聞く)。asked me where I was from (16.19) では、where のあとが、I was from の語順になり、疑問文の語順ではありません。× where was I from - 間接話法:He said he wanted to visit Japan. (16.20)。言ったのは過去なので、want も過去形 wanted です - by himself:He is learning a little by himself. (16.21)。 主語 he と同じ人なので、him ではなく himself です - so that:he speaks slowly so that we can understand (16.22)。 この can は、助動詞なので、understand は原形です - Maria says he is ...:says のあとの he は、先生のことです。 (16.23)。Maria says (that) he is ... - 最上級 the best:the best teacher in the school (16.23)。the がつき、in のあとに範囲が来ます - 二つの目的語:he gave us a story (16.24)、he makes very good tea for me (16.26)。give は「人 + 物」の順、make の場合は for me を物のあとに置きます - when のあとの現在形:when it rains (16.25)。 未来のことでも、when のあとは現在形を使います:× when it will rain - it の使い方:asked us questions about it (16.24)。it は、a story を受けます。物は he ではなく it です - 条件文 if:If you come, he will take you to the sea. (16.29)。 If you do your best, you will do well. と同じ形です - if(かどうか):I asked him if you could visit us (16.28)。 could は、can の過去形で、間接話法のために、時を過去にそろえています - she と her:she doesn't need to worry (16.27)、agree with her (16.23)。

he — 強い形は /hiː/、弱い形は /hi/ または /i/。
- he /hiː/ と she /ʃiː/ は、最初の子音が違います。
him、his、he's
- his /hɪz/:him - he's /hiːz/:he
Where does he work? /wɛr dəz hi ˈwɜrk/。 Does he work here? /dəz i ˈwɜrk ˈhɪr/。 I told him. /aɪ ˈtoʊld ɪm/。 I like him. /aɪ ˈlaɪk ɪm/。 Yes, he is. /jɛs hi ˈɪz/。Who is he? /hu ɪz ˈhi/。 He said it, not I. /ˈhi ˈsɛd ɪt ˈnɑt ˈaɪ/。
- He said he would call me. /hi ˈsɛd hi wʊd ˈkɔl mi/ — 二つの he は、どちらも弱く言います。 - Did he ask him? (彼の名前は〜) / He's from Canada.
- Yes/No の疑問文は、文末で上がります:Is he a teacher? ↗ - 疑問詞のある疑問文は、文末で下がります:Where does he work? He is tall, isn't he? ↘
He hurt himself, so I gave him some ice. /hi ˈhɜrt hɪmˈsɛlf soʊ aɪ ˈgeɪv ɪm səm ˈaɪs/ — 意味は、「彼はけがをしたので、私は彼に氷をあげました」です。
