Leon Battista Alberti, reborn, recalls in macronized Ciceronian Latin his attempt of 1446, for Cardinal Prospero Colonna, to raise an ancient ship from Lake Nemi with floating barrels, windlasses and Genoese divers; the ship broke apart, and he draws from the wreck a correction of his own teaching on parts and wholes.
